How many tears must fall
before I can escape the deep?
Everytime I reach the surface,
You keep pushing me down in the water again.
Yes, I have learned to be a better swimmer,
but I long for land,
and keep begging You for it
over and over again.

While I was crying like this,
the spirit of Rumi overcame me:
”Dear friend, don’t you see
the ocean of love is all there is?
You are the newborn child,
trembling and screaming resistfully
in water for the first time,
while He is bathing you
more lovingly than any mother could do.
Neither He nor the water is drowning you,
but your lack of trust in Him.
Come, let the water embrace you!
How can you ever be the purest ruby
by clinging to land?!”
